2011 Upton Forum - Elinor Ostrom
2011 Upton Scholar
Elinor Ostrom, co-recipient of the 2009 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics and the Arthur F. Bentley Professor of Political Science at Indiana University, Bloomington, will serve as Beloit College's 2011 Upton Scholar.
Professor Ostrom's research investigates the ways in which communities have successfully managed "common pool" resources, such as water, fisheries, and forests through self-governance within civil society. Because her work identifies solutions within civil society that replace conflict and poverty with peace and prosperity, Professor Ostrom's research addresses questions that are at the heart of the Upton Forum.
