The College: Four year, independent, residential liberal arts and sciences college. It’s Wisconsin’s first college, founded in 1846.
Location: Beloit, WI, population 37,000. Located on the Illinois-Wisconsin state line 90 miles northwest of Chicago, 50 miles south of Madison, and 70 miles southwest of Milwaukee.
Degrees and Majors: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science; pre-professional programs in environmental management and forestry, engineering, law, and medicine; more than 50 fields of study
Students: 1,315 men and women from 46 states, 40 foreign countries, and the District of Columbia; 61% White (non-Hispanic), 22% Domestic Minority (including 9% Hispanic/Latino, 5% Black or African American, 3% Asian, 3% two or more races), 13% International, and 4% Unknown.
Faculty: 110 full-time faculty, 95% of whom hold a Ph.D. or the highest degree in their field; 12:1 student-to-faculty ratio.
Average class size: 15 students. One third of classes have 10 or fewer students.
Academic Year: Two 14-week semesters, each with a one-week midterm break.
Financial Aid: About 95% of our students receive financial aid. Our aid packages combine merit scholarships with need-based grants, loans, and on-campus work study.
Costs: Total expenses for the 2017-18 academic year: $57,142 - which includes tuition, fees, room and board.
Athletics: NCAA Division III Athletics; 17 varsity sports for men and women; Midwest Conference member; extensive intramural and club sports.

Post-graduate performance: Beloit ranks 20th out of 2,000 degree-awarding institutions for producing future Ph.D.s. We rank 11th among the nation’s most selective liberal arts colleges for our proportion of alumni receiving Ph.D.s.
Student Engagement: In its first year of publication, the National Survey of Student Engagement noted Beloit as 1 of only 4 institutions ranking in the top 20% in the five benchmark categories: academic challenge, active and collaborative learning, student-faculty interaction, enriching educational experiences, and supportive campus environment. Since then, NSSE only publishes information in the aggregate so as not to confuse the quality of the educational experience with rankings produced by magazines or other vendors.
Affiliations: Beloit is a member of the Science 50, International 50, and Business 50 consortia. We are one of the nation’s top 21 undergraduate colleges for training future leaders in science, international relations, and business. We are also a member of the Keck Consortium in Geology and the Pew Midstates Science and Mathematics consortium.
The Phi Beta Kappa honor society chapter has been active since 1911.
