Application Requirements

Requirements for International First-Year Applicants

  • A Completed Common Application or Universal College Application.
  • Official Transcripts of Secondary School Course Work*
    Official or attested copies of your secondary/high school academic record and any corresponding national or provincial exam results are required, and should include grades or marks from the past three years of secondary/high school, in addition to any results from your final year of secondary/high school if applicable.

    All academic records and examinations must be in English and submitted through the online application or directly to Beloit College by the school, examination board, or certified translator. Original non-translated documentations should also be included. Digital office records can be sent to

  • Secondary School Report Form*
    A completed Secondary School Report must be submitted by the appropriate school official.
  • Teacher Letter of Recommendation*
    Preferably by someone who has taught you within the last year.
  • Standardized Examinations
    • Submission of ACT or SAT 1 exam scores is optional for all international students whose demonstrated first language is English.
    • Non-native English speakers must show proof of English proficiency by submitting one of the following requirements:
      • SAT 1, ACT, TOEFL, or IELTS exam scores: Applicants must meet the following minimum score requirements:
        • TOEFL iBT (internet-based): 80
        • TOEFL pBT (paper-based): 550
        • IELTS: 6.5
      • Currently enrolled and/or completed secondary education in an English instructed curriculum (minimum of 2 years is required)
      • Completion of an intensive ESL program through the Center for Language Studies at Beloit College, or through one of our partner institutions:
      • InitialView interview (see below for more information)

      If you feel that you have demonstrated English proficiency in a way that is not mentioned above, please contact us at Students who score below our required minimum scores may be eligible for admissions on a conditional basis. We encourage you to apply and one of our international admissions counselors will contact you.

  • Optional Components
    • Interviews are not required, but they can help strengthen a student's application. If you are interested in an interview, we offer Skype interviews, which can be requested by completing this online form.
    • Applicants from China, India, Saudi Arabia and South Korea
      For an additional way to demonstrate English proficiency, we strongly recommend that students from the countries listed above participate in an interview and writing sample administered by InitialView as part of their application. InitialView will provide Beloit with a recording of the interview and a copy of the writing sample, which will be added to the student's application and reviewed by the admissions committee.
    • Students may submit digital samples of creative work or composition (poetry, photography, art, music recordings, research, etc). Digital files may be uploaded through Beloit's online applicant portal (notification of the portal will be sent once the student's application for admission has been received).
    • At Beloit, we’re setting our sights higher. In an effort to get-to-know our applicants, we have partnered with ZeeMee, a free service that helps students bring their application to life. As part of a holistic review, we are committed to learning about the person behind the application. Simply copy and paste your link into the Common App (there's a dedicated field for it); include the link with your essay if using the Universal College Application.  Sign up at Please note, submitting a ZeeMee profile is completely optional and evaluation of your admissions application will not be delayed as long as all materials are received by the stated deadlines.
