Living in Ecuador for my junior year of college was perhaps the best academic choice I have ever made. I have become fluent in Spanish, familiarized myself with Latin American literature and chosen literary translation as the focus of my studies.

Details: Core courses in Spanish literature, conversation, and composition for foreigners at multiple levels, as well as area studies courses.  General curriculum is available to students with adequate Spanish proficiency, determined by a placement examination.  Community engagement opportunities available.

Details: Orientation in Quito; Quito in Transition course; full range of science and social science courses, some with field study trips; study with local students; excursions; volunteer opportunities.

Spain - CIEE: Sevilla



Spain - ISEP: Universidad Alfonso X del Sabio


Language: Spanish

Prereqs: 5 semesters Spanish, or equivalent, 2.75 gpa

Housing: Students receive a combined housing and meal stipend. Students typically live in shared student apartments, but on occasion may live in residence halls (limited space). With their stipend, students can prepare their own meals.

Description:  Smaller university 30 minutes from Madrid.  The fields most appropriate for ISEP participants include Architecture, Business Administration, Civil Engineering, Languages, Mechanical Engineering, Physiotherapy, and Tourism. ntensive Spanish language courses are offered in addition to regular classes each semester for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels.


Spain - ISEP: Universidad de Almería


Language: Spanish

Prereqs: 4 semesters of Spanish, 2.75 gpa

Housing: Shared apartments, meals prepared on your own.

Description: Students with only 4 semesters of Spanish may enroll in regular university courses taught in English, plus Spanish as a Second Language through the Centro de Lenguas. Students with only 4 semesters of Spanish may enroll in one or two regular university courses instructed in Spanish in addition to other coursework if their level of Spanish is sufficient to do so.


Spain - ISEP: Universidad de Navarra, Pamplona


Language: Spanish

Prereqs: 5 - 6 semesters Spanish, 2.75 gpa

Housing: ISEP Exchange students are placed in shared student apartments, or may choose to live in a residence hall, and receive a stipend to cover rent and meals. ISEP Direct students are placed in a residence hall with kitchen facilities

Description: Wide range of courses available in this university, located in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains.  Courses in Spanish language are available.  Students can take one course in Spanish language study.
