Nomination Information

Student informational meeting: Wednesday, September 6, 6:00 pm, in SC 101

Deadline for nominations: Monday, September 25, 2017

Deadline for registration and abstract submission: Monday, October 2, 2017

Deadline for sponsor approval: Monday, October 9, 2017

To nominate a student:  Submit the student's email address and name to Students can be nominated by multiple faculty members. 

Presentation options:

  • 20-minute conference-style presentation followed by 5 minutes of Q&A
  • Panel discussions with 3-4 students on a common topic
  • Poster sessions

All presentations must be sponsored by a faculty or staff member.  The sponsor does not need to be the individual who nominated the students.

Students and sponsors should consult about the format that will best suit the student's topic and experiences abroad. 

Abstracts:  Student presenters are responsible for preparing and submitting abstracts for their presentations.  They should discuss their abstracts with their sponsors before submitting them. 

In the case of panel discussions, one panelist should submit the abstract and enter the names of the other panelists.

Once abstracts are submitted, sponsors will be contacted through the on-line submission system to review and approve them.  No student may present without a sponsor's approval.

Abstracts should be substantive, explicit as to the content of the presentation, and no longer than 300 words. If a study abroad/research site is discussed, this should be mentioned in the abstract. 

Abstracts will be appear in the symposium program, which is widely disseminated. Symposium titles will also appear on the student's transcript. Faculty sponsors' mentorship is assumed, valued, and publicly acknowledged.
