Policy & Service Updates
To help curb the spread of COVID-19, all Beloit College staff and faculty, who can work remotely, are being asked to do so immediately.
Staff from the following offices should continue to report to campus.
- Security
- Health and Wellness Center (Call or email first, by appointment only)
- Facilities - Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Grounds
- Residential Life (Contact staff by phone and email)
- Bon Appetit (Serving at Commons only)
- Mail Center
Some schedules may change because of operational needs or to comply with COVID-19 health mandates. Office supervisors will convey information about changes to schedules directly to the staff they supervise.
Presently the only visitors that should be coming to campus are those needed for essential academic or business continuity. If you have questions about whether a visitor should come to campus, please contact the senior staff member to whom your department reports.
Any visitors who have traveled to or through countries with CDC Warning Level 3 regarding coronavirus (COVID-19) should postpone visits to the Beloit College campus until they have remained symptom-free for a 14-day period of self-monitoring.
Please check the CDC for a current list of Warning Level 3 areas. Europe has now been categorized as Level 3.
Faculty need to be prepared to be available for student office hours without requiring in-person meetings.
As new information continues to come out, here are some important guidelines for food service operations for the immediate future.
- Updated hours are the same as they were for Spring Break.
- In order to adhere to the following guidelines, some seats will be removed from tables to make this easier: Follow social distancing guidelines; whenever possible maintain a distance of 3-6 feet from anyone sneezing or coughing.
- For extended Spring Break, any students who are on the All-Flex plan will only be charged $5.00 per meal to help ensure you have funds remaining for the rest of the semester.
- The coronavirus COVID-19 is a respiratory virus transmitted by coughs and sneezes from infected people. It is not believed to be a foodborne illness.
What You Can Do
- Cover your coughs and sneezes
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and hot water — especially before touching utensils or food that others must share
- Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
- Use a clean plate every time when serving yourself
- Use the serving utensils provided
- Do not fill personal beverage containers at the community dispensers.
What We’re Doing
- Disinfecting all highly touched surfaces hourly.
- Emphasizing and enforcing personal hygiene awareness and health-reporting policies to all staff.
- Putting backup service plans in place for additional contingencies.
- International students will be able to remain on campus for the spring semester. Residence halls, a dining facility, and the library will be open.
- The college will continue to operate, so consultations with faculty and staff will continue to be possible.
- If international students choose to return home, they will be able to complete courses remotely, as will be true for all Beloit College students.
- The U.S. government has taken measures to ensure that international students will be able to maintain good immigration status while completing courses on-line, whether on their home campuses or in their home countries.
Beloit College funding (Common Grant and other funds administered by Beloit College) may not be used to support students engaged in activities (internships, work, volunteering) in summer 2020 in which in-person elements are a required or expected part of the experience.
However, students may earn credit for summer activities conducted in-person or remotely by enrolling in and completing FEP 201, a course that facilitates reflection on summer activities.
All students participating in FEP 201 or other Beloit College summer courses must agree to abide by minimum safety recommendations and all laws, restrictions, and guidelines in their local areas to decrease the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19.
Common Grant and funding from other Beloit College sources may be used in summer 2020 to pay the cost of Beloit College tuition for enrolling in FEP 201 or other Beloit College courses.
Questions about this policy should be directed to Josh Moore or the COVID-19 taskforce.
Travel to areas designated by the CDC as Level 3 is prohibited.
Outbound essential institutional travel to other areas must be approved by the senior staff member to whom your unit reports and the following criteria are considered:
- The business cannot be conducted by any other means.
- Approval has been received from the individuals or groups to be visited.
- Students are not involved.
- No large groups are involved. This included conferences or professional meetings.
Everyone must register your travel plans on this form.
- Cancellation costs for college-funded travel will be paid by Beloit College.
- Individuals traveling on behalf of Beloit College will continue to be paid if they become subject to self-isolation and/or quarantine. Work should be performed from the off-campus location if possible.
- Individuals who travel abroad may be at risk of travel delays or cancellations, challenging access to healthcare, and voluntary or involuntary self-isolation or quarantine.
Additionally, if you meet any of the criteria below, we ask that you remain off campus for 14 days of self-monitoring and being symptom-free from the time of your potential exposure:
- Known direct exposure to a confirmed case of COVID-19;
- Have been instructed to isolate or self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms;
- Have been notified by a local or state authority that you might have been exposed to COVID-19 directly;
- Have current symptoms including fever, cough, or shortness of breath.
We strongly urge you to exercise caution regarding any upcoming personal travel, as documented cases are growing rapidly. You may face a higher risk of infection, significant delays returning to campus, and/or the requirement to self-isolate upon your return. If you are traveling, check CDC travel alerts or the World Health Organization’s daily situation reports, or the most current guidance and recommendations.
Please note that If you do travel internationally, or to or through domestic locations with health emergencies and rapid spread of COVID-19, you will be expected to remain off-campus for 14 days and self-monitor after your return home.
