Future Beloiters from the stateline area will now have an extra incentive to stay closer to home, besides their mom's cooking. This week, Beloit College announced it will provide a scholarship of $32,000 per year for a total of four years to local students who are admitted to the institution.

"While Beloit is a national and international college, we also have a long tradition of enrolling students from the local area," says Terry Cowdrey, interim vice president for Enrollment. "Those students often do exceptionally well at Beloit and maximize the opportunities, including studying internationally. This scholarship is intended to first, get the attention of students in the stateline area, and, second, make the idea of attending Beloit a reality by reducing the costs students from the stateline area will pay. Beloit will enroll some more great local students and more local students will get the benefit of a Beloit College education," says Terry.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must reside in Green, Rock, or Walworth counties in Wisconsin or Boone, Stephenson, or Winnebago counties in Illinois.

The scholarship is generously funded by alumni and friends of the college.

"Many alumni were able to benefit from scholarships when they were here, and they are "paying it back" (or paying it forward) for the next generation of students," says Terry.

The early-action application deadline is Saturday, Dec. 1, and the regular application deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 15.
