Faculty recognized at annual reception

This year's James R. Underkofler Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award was awarded to Professor of Geology and Weeks Chair in Physical and Human Geography Susan Swanson. "She pours her heart into what she teaches," wrote one student on the nomination form.

A team consisting of Kristin Bonnie, associate professor of psychology, Philip Chen, assistant professor of political science, Alexis Grosofsky, professor of psychology, Kylie Quave, teaching fellow in anthropology and the writing program, Leslie Williams, assistant professor of anthropology and Ken Yasukawa, professor of biology were awarded this year's Phee Boon Kang'73 Prize for Innovation in Teaching with Technology.

The 2017-18 Kang Prize project will facilitate a campus-wide transition from multiple statistical analysis platforms to a single statistical analysis program. "R" is a highly flexible language that supports a wide variety of statistical and graphical techniques. The Kang Prize is named for alumnus Phee Boon Kang, who serves on the Beloit College board of trustees.
