To ensure that students, faculty and staff know where to go and what to do in the event of severe weather, Beloit College will be conducting a tornado drill on Wednesday afternoon, April 11. Since this is a new practice, we are providing you with information to prepare for the drill. On April 11, the notice and safety instructions will be sent to you from the college’s emergency notification system via email, phone and text. An “all clear” message will be sent when the drill is over.
If you are in an academic or administrative building
Faculty, staff, and students should immediately proceed to the designated below-ground level of your building when you receive the alert. Students in your classrooms may not be aware of the designated locations and will need assistance in finding the appropriate location. Building coordinators in all academic and administrative buildings have been trained on what to do in the event of a tornado warning and will assist you as needed. Instructions for severe weather and other emergency events are also included in the Emergency Procedures guide on page 4. (This is the bright pink booklet you may be keeping at your desk. If you don't have one, please contact Human Resources for a copy.)
If you are in a residential building
Students and staff in residence halls or houses should immediately proceed to the basement or lowest level of the building away from windows. RAs, Reslife staff and Health Center staff who are in the buildings are trained and will assist as needed. Information about Severe Weather/Tornado Plans is available on page 123 of the Student Handbook.
If you are outdoors
If you are on campus please go immediately to the nearest building and proceed to the basement or lowest level of that building away from windows. Building coordinators, RAs or other staff will assist as needed.
If you have any questions about the drill, please contact Bruce Heine in security at email@example.com.
