It's time for the second annual Queer Film Festival brought to you by SAGA! The theme this year is women loving women. We're bringing you four films over the course of four nights. The films and nights are: The Miseducation of Cameron Post (April 8th), Mosquita y Mari (April 9th), Boy Meets Girl (April 10th), and Rafiki (April 11th).
Below are the summaries for each film:
The Miseducation of Cameron Post (2018): After teenager Cameron Post is caught in the backseat of a car with another girl on homecoming night, her conservative Christian aunt sends her to a gay conversion therapy camp. Cw: Gay conversion therapy, descriptions of violence, self-harm, mention of suicide, blood. Runtime 96 minutes.
Mosquita y Mari (2012): In a fast-paced immigrant community where dreams are often lost to economic survival, two young Chicanas contemplate life when they stir unexpected desires in each other. Mosquita y Mari is a coming of age story that focuses on a tender friendship between two young Chicanas. Yolanda and Mari are growing up in Huntington Park, Los Angeles and have only known loyalty to one thing: family. Growing up in immigrant households, both girls are expected to prioritize the well-being of their families. Yolanda, an only child, delivers straight A's and the hope of the American Dream while Mari, the eldest, shares economic responsibilities with her undocumented family who scrambles to make ends meet. -- (C) Official Site. Boy Meets Girl (2014): Ricky, a 21-year-old transgender woman living in small-town USA, dreams of becoming a fashion designer in New York. The film explores her relationships with her family, her childhood best friend Bobby, and new romantic interest, Francesca. Cw: transphobia, transphobic slurs, self-harm mention. Runtime 99 minutes.
Rafiki (2018): "Good Kenyan girls become good Kenyan wives," but Kena and Ziki long for something more. When love blossoms between them, the two girls will be forced to choose between happiness and safety. Cw: Violence. Runtime 83 minutes.
