Elizabeth C. Yeampierre is a nationally recognized Puerto Rican attorney and environmental justice leader of African and Indigenous ancestry born and raised in New York City. She is Executive Director of UPROSE, Brooklyn's oldest Latino community-based organization. Prior, Ms. Yeampierre was Director of Legal Education and Training at the Puerto Rican Legal Defense Fund, Director of Legal Services for the American Indian Law Alliance and Dean of Puerto Rican Student Affairs at Yale University. Ms. Yeampierre was the first Latina Chair of the US EPA National Environmental Justice Advisory Council and is a member of the National Advisory Environmental Health Sciences Council. Elizabeth was selected as the opening speaker at the Obama Administration's first White House Forum on Environmental Justice. Her keynote will highlight the current pressing issues surrounding the work of environmental justice, and how students can engage in this work to promote equitable global practices.
