Beloit College today announced that it is now offering students a way to beat the rising cost of college tuition by joining Private College 529 PlanSM, a pre-paid tuition savings plan that allows participating families to lock in today’s tuition rates for future use.

Last week, a group of 23 students from as close as Wisconsin to as far away as Louisiana and Los Angeles arrived at Beloit College. Most of them are among the first in their families to attend college. To assist them in their early endeavors at the college, Beloit offers a federally-funded program --and a collection of staff, faculty, and upperclassmen-- intent on helping them get a strong start.

Beloit College has once again been named one of the nation's best institutions for undergraduate education, according to The Princeton Review. The education services company features Beloit in the new 2015 edition of its annual college guide, The Best 379 Colleges, which was released today (Aug. 5.)

Starting with the fall 2015 admission cycle, Beloit will become test optional, which means that the submission of standardized test scores (i.e. ACT/SAT) will be optional for domestic first-year applicants.

Beloiters from around the world have helped the college meet its ambitious 2013-14 annual fund goal. According to the development office, gifts to the Beloiter Fund exceeded $3.3 million this year. That's approximately $300,000 more than last year's goal and constitutes a 45 percent increase from five years ago.

Beloit, Wis. – “Turtles all the way down” has long been a theme on campus, where turtles are commemorated on ancient Indian mounds and are known as the college’s unofficial mascot. Today, at Beloit College’s 164th Commencement ceremony where 278 graduates received their diplomas, that phrase came to life with a special, surprise guest appearance from up-and-coming country singer Sturgill Simpson.

Gender and sexuality in Irish traditional music will be the topic of a forthcoming book by Tes Slominski, a postdoctoral faculty fellow in the music department. Slated to be released in 2017, the book will be targeted to an academic audience of those specializing in gender and sexuality studies, music studies and Irish studies.
