The 60th Annual Beloit &Vicinity, a juried show that celebrates regional artists will open its 60th exhibition on Saturday, May 27. T
here are more than 32 works of art created by 27 artists from the region. In addition, an exhibit by the 59th Annual Beloit & Vicinity first place winner Jeanne Ludeke, titled The Freeze Bank Episode, will also be on display.
To celebrate 60 years, there will also be a retrospective featuring landscape-themed art from past exhibitions curated by Beloit College student Hannah Yee’19.
Two prominent figures in the art community: Graeme Reid, director of Collections & Exhibitions at the Museum of Wisconsin Art in West Bend, Wis., and Josie Osborne, a visual artist and senior lecturer and director of the First Year Program in Art and Design at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts were jurors this year.
“They have selected works that showcase a diverse range of mediums and subjects, creating a thoughtful and interesting exhibition,” said Joy Beckman, director of the Wright Museum of Art.
The Beloit & Vicinity Exhibition is one of the oldest regional juried art shows in Wisconsin. An opening reception will be held May 27 at 4:30 p.m. at the Wright Museum of Art. The exhibitions will run until the end of July.
