Two Beloit College faculty members have received recognition from national and state of Wisconsin organizations. Assistant Professor of Biology Kathryn Johnson and Professor of Political Science Georgia Duerst-Lahti recently won the prestigious awards in their respective fields.

Johnson is the recipient of the Teaching of Physiology Section New Investigator Award, the highest recognition awarded by the American Physiological Society for teaching by an untenured faculty member.

She received the honor at the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology conference held in San Diego in late April. In addition to the award, Johnson became a member of the APS Teaching Section Steering Committee.

Duerst-Lahti was named a 2014 Woman of Achievement in the field of higher education by the Wisconsin Women in Government. Her selection was based on her accomplishments and contributions to higher education, as well as her dedication to public service and her community.

Though she cannot attend in person as she is currently teaching at the University of Botswana, Duerst-Lahti will be honored at the Wisconsin Women in Government Scholarship & Recognition Gala on Tuesday, May 6 at the Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center in Madison.
