In its Dec. 11 article, “Power Converters,” Architect magazine explored how power plants offer an excellent opportunity to reuse and reclaim valuable city parcels.

Along with other high-profile projects in Washington, D.C., and Austin, Texas, Beloit College’s newly embarked initiative to convert a nearby power plant into an activity and recreation center was featured in the article.

Dan Schooff, Beloit College’s project manager for the power plant conversion, and Jeanne Gang, whose Chicago-based Studio Gang architectural firm is leading the conversion efforts, were interviewed for the article, both discussing the project’s merits and challenges.

“It requires care at every step,” Schooff said in the article. “It’s much more complicated than building a new building. But we think the payoff is worth it.”
