Beloit College to celebrate 200th anniversary of Pride and Prejudice

Screenings, a faculty panel and an English country dance part of weekend events

Beloit College will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of the beloved British classic novel, Pride and Prejudice, with a series of events from Friday, Sept. 27-Saturday, Sept. 28. All are free and open to the public.

First, two marathon screenings of the 1995 BBC TV series of Pride and Prejudice will take place, beginning on Friday at 7 p.m. with the first four episodes, followed by the final two episodes on Saturday at 1 p.m. Tea will be served during the intermissions on both days.

At 3:30 p.m. after Saturday’s screening, topics including the film, the novel, Regency-era culture and the enduring popularity of Jane Austen will be discussed during a faculty Q & A roundtable. Both screenings and the roundtable will be held in Wilson Theatre, Mayer Hall.

Wrapping up the Pride and Prejudice celebration will be an English country dance from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.  in the Hendricks Center for the Arts co-sponsored by the Beloit Contra Dance Club.
