Paintings, sculptures, drawings and artwork in other mediums will be on display when the 56th Annual Beloit & Vicinity Exhibition opens on Saturday, June 15 at the Wright Museum of Art.

To celebrate, an opening reception will be held in the courtyard of the Wright Museum of Art from 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. on June 15. A presentation will take place at 5:30 p.m. when the winners of the Juror’s Award, second and third place prizes, the People’s Choice Award, and the Best Emerging Artists will be announced.

The exhibition, which is free and open the public, will run through Sunday, July 21.

Next year, the Juror’s Award winner will be given a gallery show at the Wright Museum and the People’s Choice Award winner will be featured on the front cover of the catalog.

Beloit & Vicinity is open to all artists residing in Wisconsin and neighboring states, and includes prints, textiles, performance pieces and photographs.

The exhibit, which benefited from the assistance of student curator Josh Sundermeyer’15, is made possible through a partnership between the Wright Museum of Art and Visit Beloit

"It's been 56 years, but every show is unique," said James Pearson, exhibitions director and collections manager. "This one is no exception. There are a lot of standouts. It really is a fantastic sampling of the contemporary art scene of southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois."

The Wright Museum of Art is located on the Beloit College campus at the corner of Prospect and Bushnell streets. It is open Tuesday-Sunday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
