Yale University History Professor Valerie Hansen will give a lecture titled “The Silk Road: A New History,” on Thursday, Feb. 7 at Beloit College. The lecture is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Moore Study Lounge, Pearsons Hall.
Hansen will spend Thursday, Feb. 7 and Friday, Feb. 8 on campus as part of the Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Program, which brings a dozen distinguished scholars to colleges and universities with chapters of Phi Beta Kappa.
During their two-day visits, the scholars meet informally with students and faculty members, take part in classroom discussions, and give a public lecture open to the entire academic community.
In Hansen’s lecture, “The Silk Road: A New History,” she details the remarkable archeological finds that revolutionize our understanding of these Chinese trade routes. The lecture is based on her book of the same name that was published last summer. Her other books include “The Open Empire: A History of China to 1600,” “Negotiating Daily Life in Traditional China,” and “Voyages in World History.”
The lecture is free and open to the public.
