Entrepreneur Christopher “Stopher” Bartol elected to Board of Trustees

Alumnus and entrepreneur Christopher “Stopher” D. Bartol’88 will join the college’s board of trustees when it convenes for its fall meeting in October. Bartol will serve a three-year term expiring at the 2015 annual meeting.

Bartol is the founder, president and CEO of, the Internet’s leading online memorialization company. After working for nearly a decade as a management consultant for the McKinsey & Company, Bartol founded the website in 1998. now hosts an online obituary for 70 percent of people who die in the United States each day. The company also provides services for more than 800 newspaper affiliates in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. It is among the 100 most visited websites in the United States.

At Beloit College, Bartol was president of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE), a tennis player and a member of the honor society Phi Beta Kappa and Belmark Associates. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree, Bartol received his Master of Business Administration degree in finance and marketing from the University of Chicago- Booth School of Business in 1992. Bartol lives in Evanston, Ill., with his wife, Sheryl, and their three children.
