    Nearly 1,250 students will hit the Beloit College campus for the first day of classes on Tuesday, Aug. 30. They won’t just be cramming for tests and going to classes for the next eight months though. They will also be reading to kids, building houses, boosting the business of local vendors, attending guest lectures by Nobel prize winners and much more.

    President Scott Bierman has announced that Charles Westerberg will be the first Director of the Liberal Arts in Practice Center at Beloit College. The current associate dean and associate professor of sociology was recommended for the role by Provost Ann Davies.

    Beloit College’s “Birkenstock-wearing, tree-hugging, clove-smoking vegetarians” have caught some national attention this week. In fact, the college ranked fourth in that highly descriptive category, according to The Princeton Review.
