Wingate Polychrome is Wingate Black-on-Red with white and red designs on the exterior. Early on, (upper sherds) the exterior treatment consist of wide bands of red slip framing white painted ground, often giving the appearance of finger painting. This was previously known as Houck Polychrome, but will be considered a variety here. Later, (lower sherd) the white ground is more of a slip, with more carefully executed red designs are painted over it. This was once known as Querino Polychrome, but will again be considered a variety here.
