FREN 290. Filmic Expressions of the Francophone World in Translation: French New Wave (1). In this course, students explore the French New Wave, an art film movement that challenged traditional cinema and ushered in new ideas and experiments in film. Students explore the social and cinematic contexts of these filmmakers through their films, interviews, reviews and news articles. Students learn how to talk about film, how to analyze narrative and form, and how to think about cinema as art that reflects, reacts to, interrogates and critiques social, cultural, and political contexts.
