Maura Kidwell

Maura Kidwell ’04, who played “Claire ‘Stats’ Bender” on USA Network’s Sirens, has enjoyed working on a variety of Chicago stages, as well as in many other television shows, films, and commercials. She’s also a teacher of on-camera technique and a private audition coach. The advice she gives most often to my students is to “Dare to be wrong;” there’s no reward in art without risk.

Kidwell swears, “My experimental spirit as an actor was instilled and nurtured at Beloit. Beloit is a place where the learning is in the doing; whenever I had a question in a theatre class, usually the answer was, “Get up and try it.” I knew very early on in my college career that to excel as a theatre artist at Beloit meant spending every day getting to know myself a little better, making my own choices (and mistakes) and learning from them. Today, I’m an artist who trusts myself and stands firmly by my own work, and for that I thank my professors at Beloit.”
