- Class of 2001
Hanifa Washington ’01 has taught environmental education in beautiful places in New England, co-founded a worker-owned cooperative, sailed over 6,000 nautical miles on schooners – including the replica of La Amistad, recorded 3 albums, led international service learning projects, and last year, she produced and co-directed a play for an international arts festival and directed a documentary. Currently, she’s establishing a healing and wellness studio committed to uplifting access to holistic care for those most impacted by systematic oppression. Her experience at Beloit gave her permission to invent herself as much as she’s needed to and co-create comfort, liberation, community, and growth off the beaten path.
Washington maintains, “The connections made at Beloit allowed the world to open itself to me as my peers and friends took root all over the globe. Beloit encouraged me to collaborate across disciplines which made me a radically creative and equally critical thinker.”
