Description

This position is responsible for leading the integrated research and instructional services team, providing a single point of contact for services including instructional programming, collection management including College archives, academic technology, and community engagement. Beyond the skills required to adequately support teaching, learning, and research on campus, this person must exemplify strategic thinking; relationship building; excellent management and leadership skills; and outstanding customer service.

Management and Leadership
  • Manages the Research and Instructional Services team and evaluates their work. Coaches team members in their effectiveness and professional development. Assists team members in setting individual goals and prioritizing assigned tasks. Oversees the hiring, training, scheduling, and management of student workers within the team. Reviews, remediates, and/or approves timesheet and leave entries to ensure accurate reporting of staff time. Maintains a healthy and safe working environment.
  • Fosters user-focused collaboration, diversity, equity, and inclusiveness within the team and across LITS.
  • Modifies practices and procedures to improve efficiency and quality; search for better ways to effectively achieve end results.
  • Establishes contact with other Wisconsin institutions to provide robust research and instructional services.
  • Collaborates on setting departmental goals, policies, procedures, practices, and workflows and provides unit leadership to complete them.
  • Participates in LITS planning and management including decision making and formulation of LITS policies and procedures, long-range planning, recommendations for changes or improvements, and developing new types of services and operations.
  • Prepares relevant statistical information and reports as needed. Conducts surveys, focus group sessions and market research among LITS’ various patron/constituent populations to assess the quality and use of collections and services.
  • Leads one or more internal LITS work groups or project teams.
  • Provides professional development and serve as a resource for LITS staff on creating and delivering engaging instruction, research, and academic outreach for students.
  • Participates in LITS, Beloit College, and community meetings, events, and committees.
  • Engages in professional development to keep abreast of trends, developments, best practices, and technologies as appropriate for this position.
  • Conducts regular team meetings.
Research, Instruction, and Engagement
  • Leads the design, development, and delivery of an innovative information and digital literacy outreach program and associated learning activities focused on student success aligned with curricular and co-curricular programs.
  • Collaborates with faculty and campus partners to identify, implement and promote student academic success through information literacy, digital literacy, and academic skill initiatives including the use of digital tools and techniques to create academic work.
  • Coordinates an ongoing, innovative program of academic and research support for students in collaboration with LITS staff.
  • Consults with students and teach in a variety of styles and utilizing a wide range of information and digital tools, including OCLC/WMS.
  • Creates informative and engaging displays on a diverse range of topics relevant to the community.
  • Creates and coordinates outreach and programming opportunities, collaborates with campus stakeholders, and participates in campus events. Leads outreach efforts by identifying and developing strategies to enhance perceptions of LITS and engagement with its resources, services, and programs.
  • Acts as a liaison with assigned departments, paying close attention to student diversity organizations and special populations such as students with learning differences, academically at-risk students, distance education students, international students, non-traditional adult undergraduates and employed professionals. Responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with these departments to encourage collaboration in research and instruction.
  • Acts as depository contact for the U.S. and State of Wisconsin government document collections. Interprets and ensures compliance with the GPO and State of Wisconsin. Maintains the collections; prepares reports required by the programs; keeps current with policies and issues; and assesses holdings, print retention, and online access to materials.
Credentials and Experience:
  • ALA-Accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science or international equivalent
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience, including experience in public services and preparing and delivering academic content to classes and individuals
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
  • Strong commitment to engaging users and providing excellent service
