Faezeh Jalali ’01 is the Founder and Artistic Director of the theatre collaborative, FATS Thearts, Mumbai. She is an actor, director, choreographer, teacher, writer, activist. Jalali received the prestigious Tanveer Natyadharme Puraskar 2017 for her contribution to the field and also received the Dubey-Tendulkar Theatre Fellowship 2017.
Some of her theatre acting credits include, Monsoon Wedding (the stage musical by Mira Nair ), I Don’t Like It, As You Like It (Rajat Kapoor), Jatinga (Suzanne Miller), The Djinns of Eidgah (Richard Twyman), Thook (Abhishek Majumdar) , A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Tim Supple), Arms and the Man (Naseerudin Shah), The Trestle at Popelick Creek (Rehaan Engineer), among others.
Her plays 07/07/07 and Shikhandi- The Story of the In-betweens, won “Best Ensemble Cast” at the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) 2016 and 2018 respectively. Faezeh was also nominated for Best Director, and the plays, for Best New Script in both years. She won Best Supporting Actor for her role as Mimi/Rosalind for I don’t like it, As you like it, at META 2017.
Her play Shikhandi- The Story of the In-betweens was Runner- up at the Sultan Padamsee Playwriting Awards 2016 and won the Laadli Media Award for Gender Diversity (Theatre) 2016-17.
Jalali found, “The Beloit culture and its openness helped me understand gender, sexuality, and feminism better. It’s where my understanding of Theatre and theatre forms and styles started crystallising. It was a hard transition moving continents and cultures, but I wouldn’t have done it any other way.”
