Carly Newman

Carly Newman is a Chicago-based artist, whose work spans a myriad of styles and media, including online interactive performance and fabricating large-scale paintings made from plant dyes and upholstery materials.

Carly’s current practice consists entirely of collaborative work, in open defiance of the individualistic character of the artistic mainstream. Recontextualizing ‘needing help’ as a position of power, her work disrupts an individual-centered discourse, highlighting its limits and restrictions through radical disability visibility and activism.

Carly’s work has been exhibited at the Hyde Park Art Center, Sullivan Galleries, and Comfort Station. Carly also created The Curator’s Search Engine and Fratchmaking (friendship-matchmaking).
