[HIST 150] Medieval Travelers
Travel in the Middle Ages was difficult and dangerous, but many people undertook challenging journeys and, in the process, encountered new landscapes and cultures. This course explores the experiences of long-distance travelers, the routes they took, and the ways that increased travel changed the culture of medieval Europe and the Mediterranean world between 1050 and 1500. This course shares with all introductory history courses the goal of cultivating “historical thinking” through close attention to original sources and to writing. Students will also learn to make simple digital maps to illustrate their research.
