Introduction to Engineering, with ESL
This is a practical introduction to the engineering design process by looking at real world problems. The goal is to develop familiarity in engineering by designing a complete proposal for a gravity fed water supply system, from source to sink, for a small rural village.
Challenges will include deciding on a dam location, mapping out a pipeline, selecting pipe details, pipe bridges, recommending storage tank sizes, and community distribution lines. As engineers, we will also worry about installation costs, repair needs, and future growth opportunities.
The course will consist of video presentations, individual and small group tutorials, independent and group work, and presentations of design proposals.
Prerequisites include a comfortable background in algebra and trigonometry and high school level courses in physical sciences.
