Memoirs and Travelogues Across Cultures

This seminar will introduce some of the most engaging personal writings and travel narratives ever written. Readings, writing assignments and discussions will help prepare students for academic success in the liberal arts tradition, and also for a lifetime of thinking and reflection (in the best spirit of a Beloit College education). The professor will discuss some of his own travels in North America, Europe, and Asia, and will engage students in exercises in cultural observation, which can be practiced in one’s own hometown or wherever one is living across the world. Class meetings will be held entirely online.
