Writing Practicum--Writing About Music: Writing Musically
This course helps students think about how the dramatic, emotional, and structural elements of music [e.g. form, repetition, irony, misdirection, melody, rhythm] translate into musical writing, writing that has the power to overwhelm, persuade, invite, and compel its reader. We will study various musical languages, write about different musical experiences, and compose musical prose, criticism, and descriptions. Students will regularly explore new styles, experiment with myriad structures, and seek to locate their own individual style, perspective, and voice.
