Costume and MakeupTechniques

This course is designed to teach students how to prepare the visual image of the actor for the stage. The first half of the course focuses on the process and skills needed for the execution of costumes, called costume technology. We cover beginning costume construction techniques, hand and machine sewing, the organization of the costume shop - both the materials and the staff - and the process of costuming a show. The second half of the course focuses on makeup application for the stage and safety.

Course Format Description

In class meetings twice a week. Class will be split into 2 groups with one group meeting Monday/Tuesday the other meeting Wednesday/Thursday. Asynchronous work will consist of online demonstrations, readings, lectures, and independent projects.
