Introduction to Engineering Design

This course takes the student through the process of designing a device that performs a specific function, from the inception of the design to the final prototyping stage. The process begins with examining possible currently-existing devices, defining the specifications for the device, developing a model, demonstrating the practicality of the proposed model through a proof-of-concept example, reviewing the design from the standpoint of cost analysis and ethical considerations, and the final prototype construction. Students present their prototypes to the class and wider college community at the end of the term.
