During her time at Beloit Larissa balanced many hours in Chamberlin Hall (RIP) with dance courses, rehearsals, choreography and performance. Her piece LyOuVE was performed for adjudication at the American College Dance Festival in 2006.
After leaving Beloit, Larissa performed with Alma Esperanza Cunningham Movement and Chimene Pollard in San Francisco and New York City. She simultaneously put her kinesiology and anatomy skills to use as a physical therapy aide at Presidio Sport & Medicine (also in San Francisco) before moving to New Orleans to attend Tulane University School of Medicine. In 2009 Larissa was honored to participate in dance workshop at Peace House Africa in Arusha, Tanzania with some of her Beloit family (alumni, students and the inspiring Chris Johnson). For that workshop she choreographed a short solo, “Down the Rabbit Hole”, an early performance of which can be seen here at one of Tulane’s Music and Medicine concerts. While dance is not currently a consistent component of her life she continues to be active with running, completing her first marathon in Little Rock, Arkansas in March 2011. After graduating in May 2012 she hopes to pursue a Family Medicine Residency on the west coast and to land in a place with a vibrant modern dance community (if there isn’t she plans to start one).
