Daniel’s research focuses on music historiography, music pedagogy, and the intersections between performance and analysis.

He is co-founder and editor of Open Access Musicology (OAM). He has also served on the program committee for the AMS Music History Pedagogy Study Group and is the former co-chair of the SMT Performance and Analysis Interest Group.

Daniel has presented his work at national and international conferences organized by such groups as the AHRC Research Centre for Musical Performance as Creative Practice, the College Music Society, the Centre for the History and Analysis of Recorded Music (CHARM), and the Society for Music Theory. Daniel used to work for Marston Records and has published in Music Theory Online, The Journal of Music History Pedagogy, European Meetings in Ethnomusicology, and Music Performance Research
