[THDA 117] Jazz Dance I


Introduction to the technique, creative processes, and historical contexts of contemporary jazz dance. Classes entail practicing basic elements of jazz dance technique and style, including alignment, stretch, isolations, movement style combinations, and basic jazz dance vocabulary. The course focuses on the importance of space, dynamics, and presence as a means of creating variety in performance. Students engage in historical research and creative projects in various jazz dance idioms.
