[SPAN 375] Medieval Literature and Culture
This course examines various cultural productions of the Spanish Middle Ages. It includes the study of literary, political, artistic, linguistic, scientific, environmental, and/or religious interchanges that existed among the three dominant cultural communities in Spainâ€”Christian, Jewish, and Muslimâ€”and beyond. Students may be asked to discuss themes such as love, death, power, betrayal, religion, exile, migration, nationalism, and warfare along with the literary and artistic representationof national heroes and anti-heroes, kings, queens, rogues, mystics, knights, saints, and witches.
