Daniel Brückenhaus studies the role of anti-colonial laughter in resisting imperialism.

Daniel Brückenhaus studies how both prominent anti-colonial leaders and grass-roots members of anti-colonial movements used laughter as a form of resistance.

His book Policing Transnational Protest: Liberal Imperialism and the Surveillance of Anticolonialists in Europe, 1905-1945 was published by Oxford University Press in 2017.

Daniel’s teaching focuses on the history of Europe and European colonial empires from the late eighteenth century to the present.
