Political scientist Rachel Ellett studies comparative judicial policies, rule of law development, gender and judging, and lawyers and the state in sub-Saharan Africa.

With publications in journals including Comparative Politics, Journal of Law and Courts, and Journal of Political Science Education, she is author of Pathways to Judicial Power in Transitional States (Routledge, 2013).

In addition to her teaching, research and writing, she consults on rule of law development in southern Africa.
