Awards for Outstanding Alumni
Geologist Tom Casadevall’69, director emeritus for the U.S. Geological Survey, received his Distinguished Service Citation from his mentor Hank Woodard, geology professor emeritus. After Beloit, Casadevall earned advanced degrees from Penn State University and became a volcano scientist who built a distinguished career at the U.S.G.S. He responded to the first Mount St. Helens earthquakes and, in New Orleans, he converted a group of scientists into a search and rescue team credited with saving hundreds of lives during Hurricane Katrina.
Dr. Sudha Pavuluri Quamme’94, serves on Beloit’s board of trustees, and is a clinical research physician in the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health’s department of surgery. On accepting the DSC award, Dr. Quamme said she believed others in her class were more deserving, but that she would stake a claim on feeling the most gratitude toward Beloit. She said the college took a chance on her when she came from the Bahamas at age 16 as a Moore Scholar.
Erika Weiss Moczulewski’09 received the 2019 Young Alumni Award. She is a senior associate consultant at Giving Tree Associates, which counsels small to midsized non-profits, and has served on Beloit’s Alumni Association Board.
