Paddle the Rock this summer
Get a unique perspective of the Rock River this summer by paddling on it in a canoe or kayak.
The Welty Environmental Center in Beloit strives to get kids and adults out into nature. So, for the second year in a row, the Center is partnering with Beloit College’s Buccaneer Boathouse to offer paddling opportunities on the following dates:
• Tuesday, June 27 5:30-7 p.m.
• Wednesday, July 12 & 26 5:30-7 p.m.
• Tuesday, Aug. 15 & 29 5:30-7 p.m.
Canoes, kayaks, paddles, and life jackets are available for free from the Buccaneer Boat House, 1876 S. Riverside Dr., Beloit, WI on a first-come, first-served basis.
Come anytime after 5:30 p.m. as your schedule permits, but all equipment must be returned by 7 p.m. when the Buccaneer Boathouse closes. Boathouse staff will assist in dock departures and returns.
Registration is encouraged.
The Welty Environmental Center offers year-round programs for children and adults to gain hands-on encounters with nature. Beloit College’s Buccaneer Boathouse is a student-run program that offers on-the-water training and equipment throughout the year.
“We’re pleased to work with the Buccaneer Boathouse for a second year in a row to offer this low-key paddling opportunity to adults in the Beloit area,” says Welty Environmental Center Executive Director Brenda Plakens. “Whether they paddled just once over the summer or multiple times, and were first-time paddlers or experienced, last year’s paddlers very much enjoyed the chance to take a break in their day to get out onto the Rock.”
