The 2023 Midwest Conference Baseball Champion Beloit College Bucs host the annual conference tournament this Friday (May 12) and Saturday (May 13).
Beloit takes on Grinnell at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium at 10 a.m on Friday, and then will face either Ripon or the University of Chicago at 2 p.m. Find more tournament information here.
The top-seeded Bucs are a favorite heading into the weekend after completing their historic regular season by beating Illinois College last weekend in a three-game sweep. The wins tied a school record for most victories in a single season (28) and made Beloit the first team in Midwest Conference history to win 20 conference games in a season.
President-elect Eric Boynton will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the 2 p.m. game, and then join Executive-in-Residence Matt Laszlo ’92, who will host the broadcast again this weekend (available via live stream). The atmosphere at The Ballpark promises to be electric, and to celebrate the experience, Beloit College will host a tailgate party during Friday’s games at Strong Stadium, firing up the grills and serving food from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
“Coach DeGeorge and the baseball team have been a shining example of achievement for years and I look forward to seeing us run the table this weekend and make our presence felt in the national tournament,” Boynton said.
“The broadcast this weekend will be memorable. To have President-Elect Eric Boynton in the booth with me for game 2 will be special,” Laszlo says. “In addition to Eric, we have a cavalcade of other guest celebrities joining me throughout the weekend on the air. Great baseball, interesting stories, and lots to celebrate!”
Athletic Director and Head Coach Dave DeGeorge says his team is excited for the weekend.
“We’ve had a great season, claiming our 3rd league title,” he says. “The tournament is a reward for the teams who’ve had the best season. Winning the regular season and the tournament would be a terrific accomplishment. We would love to return to the NCAA Tournament.”
We hope to see you all in person or via live stream at Strong Stadium this weekend!
