Morse Library renovations start mid-May

The college is embarking on a $10 million library renovation and a new career-ready center, Impact Beloit.

The $10 million renovation of the Col. Robert Morse Library will begin in mid-May after Commencement. The renovations will transform the college’s 1960s-era library with upgraded technology and modern, user-friendly spaces for learning, studying, collaborating, and socializing. The library will be closed for the 2023-24 academic year.

Library services will transition to the Powerhouse’s Riverside Lounge between May 15 and June 5, when library usage is low. During the 2023-24 academic year, students, faculty, and staff will have access to library collections and services in that comfortable Powerhouse space where the most popular materials, course reserves, and equipment can be checked out.

Students can also access material electronically and through inter-library loans. Printing services will be located at the Powerhouse and other campus locations. Some library staff will have offices in the Powerhouse, while others, including Information Technology staff, will be located in Mayer Hall.

A grand opening of the renovated library and Impact Beloit, home of the college’s career-ready and community-based learning programs, is planned for fall 2024.

The college received a Wisconsin Neighborhood Investment Fund grant in February 2022 to strengthen its deep connections with the City of Beloit. Funds will be used for library renovations, improving critical infrastructure and maintenance needs, and creating modern spaces for students, faculty, staff, and the community for the next 25-plus years.

Exterior design upgrades will feature an inviting new entrance, parking lot, and landscaping. Janesville-based Angus-Young & Associates is overseeing the library renovation and historic landmark regulations compliance.
