The 18th annual D3football.com All-Region Teams have been announced, with Beloit College defensive back Gavin Thorpe earning a pair of All-Region selections.

Gavin ThorpeThorpe earned Third Team All-Region honors as both a cornerback and kick returner, making him one of just three players in NCAA Division-III to receive an All-Region selection at more than one position, and the only player to accomplish that feat on the three selected teams in Region 5. This also marks Beloit’s first All-Region selection in seven years (Antonio Jones, 2015).

Also a First Team All-Conference selection at defensive back, Thorpe led the Midwest Conference in interceptions with six, which also was tied for eighth-most in all of Division-III. He also led the league with 11 passes defended, which ranked 40th in D-III. In addition to that, Thorpe finished fourth on the team with 50 tackles, which ranks 21st in the MWC. He was named to the D3football Team of the Week as a cornerback on Oct. 25.

A biology major from Homestead, Fla., Thorpe was the only player in the MWC this season to return more than one kickoff for a touchdown, taking two to the house, which is tied for the most in D-III. That is in addition to a third touchdown that Thorpe scored on an interception return. He averaged 20.6 yards on 30 returns, with a long of 96 yards.

Players, a total of 1,096, were nominated for All-Region by the Sports Information Directors.  All-Region teams are selected in balloting by sports information directors in each region and D3football.com staff. All players nominated for All-Region are eligible for the D3football.com All-America Team.
