My name is Roxanna I. Sanchez-Avila, an Angelena (from Los Angeles, CA) who is currently a part-time employee for the City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks. When I am not working, I try and push myself to explore the city along with my camera(s) to practice and better my techniques as a photographer. I am also working on building up the courage to do more documentary/photojournalism style photography because I believe, as Nina Simone beautifully said once that “an artist’s duty, as far as I’m concerned, is to reflect the times,” and at the end of the day that is my dream, my goal.
Recently, I also joined L.A. Futbolistas - an organization made up of social activists/organizers, educators, artists, and overall awesome folks who play fútbol on Sundays. Not only am I learning how to play fútbol but I am also growing as an individual/team member and motivated to get involved in movements that will benefit the many communities we are a part of. In order to balance my futbolista space, I also became a part of AF3IRFM, a transnational feminist organization where I hope to grow and expand my knowledge on feminism that I know will influence my work as an artist.
