Urban Programming from Home
Meet Jessi Nguyen, double majoring in Education and International Relations.
Jessi participated in the off-campus Philadelphia Center program (TPC) after considering what additional experiences she desired to gain while attending Beloit College. Jessi pursued opportunities through TPC. The covid-19 pandemic allowed her to do the entire program remotely which had its advantages, but also a new set of challenges staying in a location with a significant time zone difference.
TPC offered Jessi two academic city-based courses, “Race Seminar” and “Economic Perspectives of Modern Urban.” Both classes were taught on one day of the week. For the rest, Jessi was able to work as an undergraduate intern for the Field Center for Children’s Policy, Practice and Research.
Jessi found it helpful that TPC helped her through the entire internship application process and she would recommend it to other domestic students interested in urban issues.
