Beloit welcomes Eric Boynton
Beloit College is pleased to announce that it has named Eric Boynton as its new provost and dean of the college. Boynton will begin the new role in June and will bring nearly two decades of experience in higher education.
As provost and dean of Beloit College, Boynton will oversee all college operations directly pertaining to academic programming, faculty, and academic administration. This includes maintaining the academic standards of curriculum, supporting faculty throughout the course of their career and encouraging high academic performance for all students.
“Dr. Boynton is a proven leader with a successful track record in higher education who we believe will take our academic enterprise to new heights,” said Scott Bierman, president of Beloit College. “The level of energy and creativity he brings to the integration of students and academic affairs is unmatched. We believe he will be instrumental in helping Beloit College further its mission of transforming the lives of our students by preparing them for the world’s fastest growing careers.”
Most recently, Boynton served as the chair and professor of philosophy and religious studies at Allegheny College, which is a coeducational liberal arts college in northwestern Pennsylvania. He also served as the director of interdisciplinary studies, director of the honors program and chair of black studies. Boynton has been at the institution since 2002.
“Beloit College’s excellence and values embodies a compelling portfolio of academic excellence that parallels my experience at Allegheny College,” said Dr. Boynton. “I feel privileged to have the opportunity to contribute to shaping and expanding Beloit College’s learning culture in this new role.”
Boynton’s educational background includes a Ph.D. in the philosophy of religion from Rice University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Redlands in religion and art history.
