Finding Autonomy

Hayley Tran ’21 Learned More Than Just Data Analytics.

A Business Economics and Media Studies double major from Vietnam, Hayley Tran ’21 had a summer internship at Corporate Contractors, Inc. This internship at CCI is called the “Five Buckets” internship. Through this experience, she had a chance to assist Accounting, Business Development, Marketing, Human Resources, and Operations with a focus on data analytics.

Hayley mainly dealt with numbers, spreadsheets and charts to help CCI understand the numbers behind their strategies, what the company had done and should do in the future. On the accounting side, her tasks were chiefly double checking and comparing reports for accuracy as well as logging data in the company’s recording program. For marketing, she analyzed analytics, worked on community outreach campaigns and talked to different businesses.

She knew about this opportunity through a course with Carol Wickersham and Jessica Fox-Wilson called Engaging the World of Work. “The class really helped me acquiring the concept of work and polishing my portfolio in order to be well-prepared for my future employment. Also, every student in the course was guaranteed at least one interview with a company that the school partners with so I pretty much took advantage of that opportunity.”

Through this internship, she was able to figure out what she wanted to have for her future employment: autonomy within the workplace. At CCI, Hayley was granted with a lot of autonomy over her tasks so she could not only work with whatever she was most confident with, but also be able to improve any other areas – as long as she enjoyed doing them.
