Working to promote social justice

Emily Verburg (IR - Class of ’12)

Emily Verburg was active with the Peace and Justice Club and wrote for the student newspaper, the Round Table.  She interned for U.S. Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin and did a summer internship with NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin.  She wrote her senior thesis on post-genocide politics in Rwanda.  After graduation, Emily traveled to Rwanda to study the work of human rights organizations there. She went on to work at the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights and then moved to the Center for the Study of Social Policy. Emily is currently pursuing a masters degree in social work at the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration.
