Q. How were you engaging with people and place when you’re not in the classroom?
A. First of all I attend any karaoke event I can (as I do also in the United States). I’ve also joined both the Quiz Society (think pub trivia, but in a classroom instead of a pub) and the Drama Society .I’ve also been spending time traveling and seeing different cities in the UK, both with friends from Beloit, and the friends I’ve met here. I’ve learned a lot, namely that I don’t have the range to pull off an Abba song, and that the pieces on a board game are called Meeples (thanks Quiz Society!)

Q. What are the three most important things you packed in your suitcase? Why?
A. My contacts, because if I can’t see I can’t do anything. My boots: the most versatile shoe known to man, goes with almost anything, stylish but good for walking long distances. My phone: that’s how I call my mom.
Q. What was the most unexpected thing you encountered during your off-campus study experience?
A. Ever single British bathroom feels like a bathroom on a boat. I can’t explain it and I can’t escape it.
Q. What is a common food there? What is the best meal you’ve had abroad?
A. I have a friend here who is Canadian and we had a big pot luck for Canadian Thanksgiving. It was delicious and a great time! I’m going to cook some American staples for everyone for American Thanksgiving in a few weeks.
